Oh hello! We can’t go waving the magic skincare wand hoping for a miracle when the way we treat our skin behind the scenes needs a little improvement. Here's our top 6 ways to prevent wrinkles naturally.
#1 Elevate your computer and your phone
If you’re reading this with your neck bent down, straighten up! Did you know “tech neck” is totally a thing? It’s a term coined to refer to the horizontal lines across your neck that happen when looking downwards towards technology like your phone or your screen. Of course there are other factors that contribute to aging of the neck, but this is an easy fix to stay mindful of!
#2 Sleep on your back
It’s no secret that sleeping on the side of your face can cause sleep lines. Sleeping on the same side for many years can actually cause more noticeable lines and volume loss as compared to the other side. Sleep on your back to keep your face from being smashed into a pillow which deepens creases. Easier said than done!
#3 Be consistent with your skincare
Consistency is key when it comes to skincare and seeing results. That includes keeping up with your daily sunscreen, washing your face nightly and showing your skin some TLC by moisturizing on the regular!
#4 Wash off the toxins at night
Environmental toxins are all over the place, especially if you live in the city. Think about all the dirt, oil, pollution and build up that our faces experience throughout the day. Washing your face at night to rid your skin of this build up is an easy step to get into the habit of!
#5 Always wear sunscreen
The proof is in the picture. This picture in specific.
“New England Journal of Medicine”
This is a 69 year old truck driver who had daily UV exposure for over 20 years, more intensely on the left vs right side of his face. You can see that his driver’s side has more aggressive lines and wrinkles as well as thicker, leathery skin we call “dermatoheliosis”
Don't be fooled into thinking keeping your windows up helps prevent this. UVA rays can penetrate through glass, even on the cloudiest days! Wear your sunscreen daily!
#6 Eat a healthy diet
Let’s be real, you are what you eat! And consuming healthy food nourishes our body, including our skin. Eating whole foods and avoiding sugar spikes can help your skin find balance and glow. Antioxidants can be found in skincare products but also in foods, especially berries. Instead of carb loading on heavy foods, consume whole grains, beans and lentils. Reach for healthy fats containing omega 3 and 6 fatty acids can help nourish your skin, including avocado, fatty fish and nuts.
Which of these are you already doing?
